Dock

When we moved house in 2010, I almost went crazy because of my unhappy marriage.
In my circle of friends and family, divorce was out of the question.
In our new villa, we had a garden in which weeds grew, one weed in particular: sorrel, which grows long roots up to two metres deep. This weed is easy to spot in pastures because the cows don't graze it. It is the only one that remains when herds have passed by.

If you want to prevent the blacken from sprouting again, you have to pull it out completely, i.e. remove the roots. As I had no other, the dock became an outlet for my marital despair. I took all my anger out on it. With all my weight, I would lean on the little hand shovel with my right arm and shoulder, sometimes jumping on it. I did this systematically for two or three years, even though the doctor had advised me to simply use a weedkiller because of my shoulder pain. But since the real problem wasn't the weed itself, I didn't listen to him. At some point, however, I lost interest in having to buy new tools on a regular basis because I was deforming the shovel with my strength when it hit larger stones. So I ended up buying weedkiller after all.

I had no idea that I had ruined my shoulder in the process. The result, the extent of which was first measured by an MRI in 2023, included collarbone osteoarthritis (which is typically a long-term consequence of an accident) and two partially torn tendons (one of which is torn between 25 and 50% and the other well over 50%). Unlike other tendons, the body fails to heal and scar the shoulder tendons once the tear is more than 25%. I was told that catching falls on the open hand causes the head of the humerus to rise, which puts pressure on the rotator cuff tendons. Another circumstance that leads to rotator cuff injuries is repetitive movements (such as the serve in tennis or the smash in volleyball), which can lead to a partial or even complete tear of the tendons in the long term.
And it was precisely these two elements, that of the fall (jumping on the shovel) and that of repetition (over 2 or 3 years), that irreversibly damaged my shoulder. This is all the more remarkable as I have no osteoarthritis or other injuries in my left shoulder, even though I have dislocated it twice, the first time shortly before our marriage. As it was explained to me, clavicle osteoarthritis can typically be a long-term consequence of dislocation.

Anti-inflammatory diet and its benefits

Thanks to an anti-inflammatory diet (gluten-free, dairy-free, corn-free, without white sugar and free from ultra heat-treated products such as industrial oils) I now live pain-free. It's mainly when I make culinary exceptions that my shoulder reminds me that I have osteoarthritis. Anti-inflammatory nutrition is very effective in combating a large number of chronic inflammatory diseases, but it doesn't cure them. It simply stops the progression and removes the inflammation, and therefore the pain. The idea behind it is pretty simple: Molecules that are difficult to digest are no longer disposed of in the stool with age in the case of a systematically unhealthy diet, but instead cause the small intestine to become over-elastic, so that molecules that are difficult to digest are deposited in the body and, depending on the genetic predisposition, cause inflammation.
A healthy diet has led to relief or even complete cessation of the disease in 85 inflammatory diseases. If you suffer from incurable chronic inflammatory diseases (such as osteoarthritis, arthritis, eczema, type II diabetes, migraine, asthma, acne, Crohn's disease, fibromyalgia, angina, multiple sclerosis, etc.) and would like to know more about them, I recommend the book Comment j'ai vaincu la douleur et l'inflammation chronique par l'alimentation by Jacqueline Lagacé, PH. D. ISBN code of the recommended book:

I have several people in my circle who suffer from chronic inflammatory diseases. For these people, I have created a short (admittedly very sketchy) summary of the book, with a short testimonial in the foreword, some personal advice and a brief summary of my own diet (I translated the English version, for example, for a friend I met in the pole-studio). If you suffer from a chronic inflammatory disease, I strongly recommend you read the book. But just in case you want to try a little diet first before embarking on a big adventure, here it is:

Just one thing: if you want to try it, you should do it for at least three weeks without making any exceptions. From my own experience, I can say that only when the pain becomes unbearable or disabling – so that you can no longer play your favourite sport, for example - do you accept that you have to go for it.
